Lily and Anthony spend their holidays in the court of Aunt Matilda – a warm old lady who was once an opera singer. Lily loves to dress up in her old dresses, which is why she gladly visits the dresser room upstairs. One day aunt shows her a mysterious hat that once belonged to her grandfather. The girl discovers that the hat is not only a commemorative element of the wardrobe, but also has quite unique properties. The hat makes it possible to travel in time. Lily shares this discovery with her brother. Thanks to this, both of them, although not always together, travel back in time to the past. Children go to the ball held at the royal court, to the old cinema, where a silent film is shown, to one of the first football matches, for secret teaching sets, and even to the painting studio of Master Picasso himself! Each trip is a surprise for Lily and Anthony, although it always has to do with what they experience in the real world. Sometimes the experiences are so educating that after returning to reality, they can better cope with situations, that they could not face before.
We didn’t have to be told twice. Me, little Tony and our cousins, we liked surprises, and the uncle talked about it so interestingly that after a dozen or so minutes our whole bunch was ready at the door.
